What's Growing in our Gardens

Strawberries!

posted Jun 7, 2013, 8:49 AM by James Roe

"What's for dessert tonight, dear?"
"Strawberries."
"Didn't we have that last night and the night before?'
"Yes, and you're gonna have it tomorrow night and the night after that!"

The long, long winter is finally over and June is bustin' out all over - especially in the strawberry bed.  The 25 or so tiny strawberry plants we set out last spring and watered through the drought of 2012 put out lots of runners anyway and this spring they really came on strong.  These are Ozark Beauties which are bearing heavily now and (should) make another crop this fall.

Blackberry Winter

I guess "blackberry winter" was the real thing this year - mid 30s night of 12-13 May!  But, looks like lots of blackberries and strawberries to be picked and enjoyed this spring.

Little flowers

At this time of year everyone has daffodils and such blooming but my eye was attracted to these little blue flowers of vinca minor.  I find them cheery.
